Manchester City to Guarantee First with a win over Newcastle

Given the way the title race is poised at present, it seemed a good idea to have a look at the challenges facing Manchester City. Kick off against Newcastle at 13:30, meaning that the latest their match with the Magpies can end is roughly half-past three.

With the game at Old Trafford due to start at four this means the men in red will know what happened to their rivals, and could potentially be in a ‘must-win’ situation, needing to get three points to take the title race to the final day.

City are now best priced at 3/4 to win in Newcastle, with VictorChandler, while Newcastle have slipped out to 4’s despite Cisse’s form and his astonishing goal against Chelsea. The tension that was apparent in the Manchester derby last week is probably going to raise its head again, explaining the fact a 1-0 away win is the favoured result, at 15/2 with StanJames, but this will be a huge test of the City squad.

United themselves are evenly more heavily favoured to beat the Welsh side, at 1/5 with BoyleSports compared to the 18/1 you can get on an away win with WilliamHill. Ironically, with Ferguson’s side at home and City away, it is the road form of United that has been so impressive, and the Blues have excelled at home, but the time for excuses has past and now we’ll see who wants it the most.
