Arsenal striker Robin Van Persie has been consistent throughout the Premier League season so far, even though the club experienced their worst start to a league season in their history, but the Dutch international has continued to grind out results for the North London club and his efforts have been rewarded this month as he picked up the Premier League’s Player of the Month award.

The Netherlands international was handed the captaincy at the club following the sale of Cesc Fabregas during the summer and has had to keep the spirits high at the Emirates Stadium as the club crashed to a number of shock defeats at the beginning of the season but his resilience seems to have paid off and his performance last week saw him help Arsenal overcome Premier League hopefuls Chelsea in a 5-3 thriller.

Taking the media spotlight following a string of performances that have help Arsene Wenger’s men turn their season around, the striker was awarded the October Premier League player of the Month accolade, taking his collection of the honour to three since November 2005.

Van Persie’s performances have lead to the Dutchman becoming the object of January desire for a number of top European clubs, including Premier League leaders Manchester City, who’s manager Roberto Mancini also picked up a top award this month after being named the manager of the month.

Mancini has been reported to have contacted Arsenal boss Wenger with a view to make an offer for Van Persie in January, showing a willing to pay £30 million for the forward, a price that Wenger could be forced to accept if the North London club are unable to tie the striker into a new contract before the January transfer window opens next year.
