Brazil World Cup 2014

If you’re thinking about betting on next year’s World Cup winner, you’d do well to look at a little of the tournament history. There have already been 19 World Cup tournaments and seven of them were held in the Americas. There was one in the USA, two in Mexico and four in South America. For these seven tournaments, there’s been a common theme – a South American side has emerged victorious every time.

Next year sees the return of the World Cup to Brazil for the first time since 1950. Then, Uruguay was the winner, beating Brazil in the final. So, logically, Brazil has got a great chance of winning this time, and if it’s not Brazil, perhaps it’ll be their rivals Argentina, winners of the 1978 World Cup on their home turf – also the last time the World Cup tournament was held in South America.

So, it’s comes as no surprise to hear that Brazil are currently World Cup favourites at course, won the last World Cup to be hosted in South America on their own soil back in 1978. At the moment you can get around 10/2 odds on Brazil, with Argentina and Germany next at 5/1. Current World Cup holders Spain follow at 11/2 with an unexpected Belgium at 14/1. At the time of writing, Holland are at 20/1 and England at 25/1.

So, what’s happened to the second most successful World Cup nation Italy? At the moment, you can bet on Italy winning at 20/1 2 which seem like great odds for a team that always approaches the World Cup with such passion and determination. They lost out to Spain in the Euro 2012 final, but they had had a tough passage to the final and their loss was no disgrace. While the value’s there on Italy, it’s definitely worth a punt as they seem to be doing all the right things to qualify.

While you’re placing bets on the World Cup, you may as well buy a ticket to enter the traditional Spanish Christmas lottery draw as this could give you the cash you need to travel to watch the World Cup and support your selection in person next year!
