Norwich City’s hopes of surviving a second season in the Premier League have been dented again with the loss of key players through injury, with Robert Snodgrass and Anthony Pilkington the latest important members of Chris Hughton’s squad to be sidelined through injury.

Snodgrass suffered a knee injury in training that isn’t too serious but is worse than first though, while Pilkington was forced off on a stretcher against Newcastle after injuring the same hamstring that had kept him out of the Republic of Ireland’s recent friendlies. Both players have been rare shining lights for the Canaries this season and the club’s hopes this season won’t have been improved by the duo’s upcoming absence from the first team.

Injuries have been an issue for Hughton since the start of the season, making an already tough job even harder at Carrow Road. Losing his two first choice wingers going into the busy festive period has only added to Hughton midfield headaches, with Elliott Bennett and Alex Tettey already sidelined for the rest of the year with their respective injuries.

The under-fire Norwich boss will also be without Ricky van Wolfswinkel for the next few weeks. The Dutch striker hasn’t come close to living up to the hype that surrounded his arrival from Sporting Lisbon in the summer for a club record transfer fee. The 24-year old has so far struggled with his fitness and form since the beginning of the year and, according to the Betfair odds, so far convinced few that he is going to be the man to score the goals that see the club safe this year.

With everything seemingly going against Hughton at Norwich, it’s no surprise the Irishman is right up there in the Premier League odds to be the next manager to lose his job.
