Liverpool are ready to challenge the top four

It’s been four years since Liverpool last made an assault on Champions League qualification and ever since Rafael Benitez’s high-profile departure from the club, Reds fans have had to endure some torrid times.

Roy Hodgson wasn’t given enough time to implement his tactics – as negative as many sports betting punters agree they were – while Kenny Dalglish was always going to be a stopper before the owners found their man. Brendan Rodgers didn’t have the most productive of seasons last term but his squad ended strongly and now, with further additions, Liverpool look ready to challenge the top four.

Fourth is probably the best Rodgers can hope for at the moment, but that is certainly attainable. The boss has added depth in his forward line, signing Iago Aspas and Luis Alberto already this summer. With a new, improving goalkeeper in Simon Mignolet and the experienced defensive addition of Kolo Toure, this side should be a formidable unit next term.

The one problem they have is Luis Suarez. The Uruguayan is an obvious talent but if reports in the football betting news are to be believed he wants out of Anfield. That could leave Rodgers wanting up front, which is partly why he’s already made forward signings, and fans can expect more to arrive on Merseyside whether Suarez stays or not.

If Suarez leaves then Rodgers, who has committed to signing more players before the transfer window closes, will have a treasure hoard to spend (and Andy Carroll is not available!). The manager has parted with £25m this summer and could certainly sign a couple more players to strengthen the squad. With or without Suarez Liverpool are ready to challenge for Champions League qualification, especially when both Spurs and Arsenal could lose out big time in the transfer market.
